What are "Related Artists" and the "RCTT"?

The prolific nature of Prince generates dozens of songs per year. During the 1980s and 90s, the standard practice for musical performers was to produce an album every 2-3 years, supported by tours in between. Prince produced much more material than the average artist and since the record companies limited the number of albums he could release, Prince looked for alternate ways of releasing more music. One of these ways was through other artists. Sometimes Prince created his own groups, such as The Time or Apollonia 6. Other times he gave songs to established artists like Patti LaBelle and Sheena Easton. The Royal Court Transcription Team (RCTT) is an extension of the Databank Transcription Team. The RCTT provides transcriptions of songs written by Prince / for other artists, including the NPG. Please note the disclaimer on the DTT Homepage concerning lyrics.

What formats are used for lyrics?

We use the same format of "Princebonics" that we use for Prince songs, such as "2" instead of "too" and "to", "4" instead of "for", etc. This may conflict with official lyrics sheets but we felt it was more consistent this way. Also:

• (lyrics in parentheses represent background vocals)
• [lyrics in brackets are ones we are unsure of]
• {editor's comments are in braces}
