What are "Outtakes"?

The prolific nature of Prince generates dozens of songs per year. During the 80s and 90s, the standard practice for musical performers was to produce an album every 2-3 years, supported by tours in between. Prince produced much more material than the average artist but the record companies limited the number of albums he could release. As a result, Prince has hundreds of unreleased songs, demos and remixes. These are defined as "outtakes".

This section contains lyrics to songs that have never been released officially on record, cassette, CD or the Internet by Prince, but have been made public in one form or another. Prince is the most prolific and bootlegged artist today, with some 400+ unreleased songs in circulation. Song descriptions are provided courtesy of UPTOWN Magazine, with permission, and the DTT. It is DTT policy to NOT provide any information on where outtakes can be obtained. If any songs are officially released in one of the methods listed above, they will be reposted in the appropriate section at that time.

What formats are used for lyrics?

We use the same format of "Princebonics" that we use for Prince songs, such as "2" instead of "too" and "to", "4" instead of "for", etc. This may conflict with official lyrics sheets but we felt it was more consistent this way. Also:

• [lyrics in brackets are ones we are unsure of]
