The prolific nature of Prince generates dozens of songs per year. During the 1980s and 90s, the standard practice for musical performers was to produce an album every 2–3 years, supported by tours in between. Prince produced much more material than the average artist and since the record companies limited the number of albums he could release, Prince looked for alternate ways of releasing more music. One of these ways was through Miscellaneous Releases. Some of these include Prince songs recorded for other albums, such as "4 The Tears In Your Eyes". Others are single releases not intended for any album. Also included, are tracks from the aborted NPG project: Peace and Prince's cancelled album: High.
